In the mid 90’s I did the Gateway program at the Monroe Institute in Faber. I was 43 years old at the time. I had read the Monroe trilogy prior to attending and was really excited about learning about, discovering and experiencing the many levels of consciousness that Robert Monroe wrote about in his books. I could write about that experience forever, but suffice it to say, I was not disappointed. It remains to this day the most magnificent event of my life.
There were several participants in my group who attended Gateway with the sole purpose of having an out of body experience. Some were successful and some were disappointed. I, however, was not there for that purpose, although I was open to it occurring if it happened.
After completing Gateway I obtained a tape called Lucid Dreaming. It was recorded under the guidance of Mark Certo, who was with the Institute as a recording engineer. I was fortunate to have met Mark while there, as he willfully interacted with all of us, and talked to us about his work at the Institute.
I worked with the Lucid Dreaming tape after returning home from Gateway. I had heard Robert Monroe talk about one of the best times to pursue and achieve an OBE was in the early morning hours just after awakening. I didn’t know what I was doing at the time, but I would listen to this tape at that time. Much to my surprise, it did induce the OBE state, which I was able to recognize by experiencing the signals Robert Monroe describes as indicative of entering the OBE state.
The experiences were short lived, but profound. I used that tape for many days thereafter and was never disappointed by any experience I had.
Since recordings in those days were all on cassette tapes and CD’s, playing them was best done on a Walkman or portable CD player with headphones or earbuds.
Many years passed without doing any of the meditations or exercises, and I have recently tried to bring them back into my life, including the Lucid Dreaming exercise. Problem was, all of my cassettes had degraded and so did my Walkman.
I contacted HemiSync to see if they still had the Lucid Dreaming recording available, and found that they did. I am now able to resume my journey of discovery using one of my favorite tools.
I guess, for me, HemiSync can be used in many ways to explore consciousness. Through the use of the Lucid Dreaming exercise, (again, for me) one can experience much more than just lucid dreams.
It is a marvelous undertaking, and provides unique insight into what lies beyond the physical.
My advice to anyone would be to be patient and give yourself time when doing any of these exercises to get where you want to go. Follow the methods outlined by Robert Monroe, relax and let it happen. You will not be disappointed in the end.
It didn’t work for me, maybe I expected too much, but after 3 weeks no single lucid dream. And I did have lucid dream experiences in my life, but always by chance. I am a bit dissappointed. For the rest I love all my other hemisync recordings.
